OK so let's start by telling you that I love the Fringe. It's so awesome when you think about it. Where else can a creative person (any person actually) present their theatrical work without being pre-judged? For those of you that don't know how the Fringe works, it's basically a big lottery. Talent, skill, level of fame and knowledge, none of this matter. It all comes down to luck. If you are lucky enough to be drawn, you are in. How much more democratic can you get?
Of course there is a slight downside to this in that it means that there is some big time, shiny, amazing crapola that graces some of Toronto's finest theatres in the first 2 weeks of July, but that is part of the fun is it not? You can see an amazing first time show followed by a well loved Fringe vet soon followed by the worst piece of theatrical "what the hell were they thinking?" trash to ever be performed on stage.
We here at Dead Sexy like to accentuate the positive so as a self designated Fringe-expert, I studied the roster, read all the press releases and bios (there were lots of them.) and picked out the ones that caught my interest.
Dead Sexy went behind the scenes with 3 companies that I think are cool and have the potential to be the "must see hits" of the festival.
Without further ado I would like to present 3 COMPANIES and 3 SHOWS, that I think have the potential to hit big!
